Exploring new management tools for CO2 sequestration in agricultural lands and forests

Transnational conference

Ljubljana, 19th October 2007

The Mons Hotel – Pot Za Brdom, 55 – Ljubljana

The Kyoto Protocol promotes and encourages new strategies for land management oriented to carbon sequestration and greenhouse gases removal. In order to make these strategies the most effective a large scale implementation at local, regional and national level is requested. Therefore it is necessary that administrative authorities responsible for land management individualize these strategies and operates for planning choices in coherence with the aims of Kyoto Protocol.
The Carbon Pro project was oriented to supply public authorities responsible for land planning with useful and easily suitable tools for transferring some concepts of the Kyoto Protocol and carbon sequestration into local and regional land planning strategies.
The Conference of Ljubljana represents the final phase of the project and will present the results obtained and the tools that will be put at disposal of public authorities in order to define the best strategies combining the environment needs and the land owners’ requirements.
The method proposed by the project is based on concrete experiences of land management related to the CADSES area, but the model adopted should easily be transferred to other European territories (and not only) everywhere public authorities promote carbon sequestration strategies.
